WATERSIDE LADIES HOCKEY CLUB
It would be fair to say that the siders were not firing on all cylinders at the start of the day….our poor attempt at keepy upy proved that…more practice required. But a slightly depleted team took to a windy Andover pitch hoping for a win.
Early on in the first half an unseen foul in the siders D lead to the first goal of the game. What did we learn from this…always play to the whistle!
Despite siders having the majority of possession and two short corners go wide, it was feeling like we were just not going to score…until short corner number 3…a classic no 5 hit out by Coolio passed between chez and Emma and then expertly deflected into the goal by abi (I didn’t even mind that she stole my goal it was that good 😉 ) Invigorated by drawing level, siders form improved and we held out with it remaining 1-1 at half time.
Raring to go for a second half siders sustained some pressure early on. Tina made some crucial saves and even pulled off a high kicking clear out! Nash, Emma and Coolio bossed the middle of the pitch with silky keeping the width and making some cracking runs, even Gaynor joined in way up in their half of the field! Abi, daisy and Jude worked hard up front to create chances. Siders good passing and maintaining possession was rewarded by a great cross into the D where Coolio was waiting to put it into the goal ….2-1!!!
Despite some excellent work from Nash, she had ticked off the umpire one time too many by not getting five so of course, Dudley got a green card for it!! 2 mins off for dudders.
Siders third goal came from a sweeping fluid move straight off the training ground that even Steve would have been proud of! A 16 yard hit out taken by nat across our D and out wide to Gaynor. Emma moved out wide pulling her marker to create a gap down the right. Silky collected and ran it down to the oppositions base line, a cracking ball into the D where Jude dispatched a double Horner of a strike.. 3-1!!!
A good result and well played by everyone.
Thank you to Dave who umpired again.
POM went to Coolio who had a great game filling Becca’s shoes.
Chez over and out.
