WATERSIDE LADIES HOCKEY CLUB
Within seconds of the whistle, Waterside broke with the first attack, rattling the Havant defence from the off.
But, despite the dynamic play, great passing, and a few more shots, including an ‘oh so close’ looping p-shot deflection from Alex, it just wasn’t going the ‘siders way and somehow Havant crept ahead with two dirty goals splattering Tina’s soggy, rain drenched sheets.
(Excuse the lack of detail, but everyone was so focussed on the game, nobody can really remember… but at some point, Katie almost ‘broke’ a defender, taking Havant briefly to 10 men, and Becca, well, got a bit stressed.)
Waterside were down, but certainly were not out. They kept their heads and the organised sideline subbing kept play fresh and it wasn’t long before Becca scored a potentially questionable short (the umpire may have been dodgy, but we didn’t mind then) and Alex put one away (much to the excitement of Becca J) from a beautifully placed pass across the D. 2-2, the ‘siders were back in play, all in time for the half time break.
With Jude’s leftover Halloween treats fueling the second half, Waterside fought on. But Havant were re-invigorated and quickly dirtied Tina’s second-half sheets. The battle was well and truly on, and the side line support couldn’t have been better, with Jude particularly smashing the role of side manager and head cheerleader in one!
The dynamism continued, and Waterside soon crept back with some superb one-twos resulting in goal number 3 from Abi, and number 4 from Silky – even after a couple of telling offs from the main man, Dave, who did an amazing job managing what was becoming a tense game.
4-3 up, Waterside kept a strong back line and continued vigour up front – victory was theirs!
Nice one, everyone!
