Havant quite enough!

Plenty of action in a nine goal thriller which unfortunately Waterside narrowly lost 5-4.
The pre-match dressing room talk was about how Esther spent the night in her car (which is tiny) following a boozy night out with her fellow fire-fighters! However we soon re-focused on the game ahead with an impressive team huddle grrr led by Abi.

Despite some early pressure from Havant, Waterside raced into a 2-0 lead, with goals scored by Katie and a first goal for Silky. Havant spurred on by this, scored two quick goals to make it 2-2, with the help of some ‘interesting noises’ from one of the Havant strikers.

Undeterred by this, Waterside continued to push forward. A brilliant defence splitting through ball by Shevy found Katie, with Katie smashing the ball past the keeper into the goal to make it 3-2 to the Siders at half time.

After a switcheroo in umpires and positions, Waterside headed back onto the pitch knowing they had to hold onto the slim lead. However Havant had a lot of the early play in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure with the whole team having to defend with some great tackles. Havant with some very good attacking players managed to break us down and scored 3 goals to make it 3-5.

Both umpires were kept busy with Coolio having a word with a couple of the Havant players and the Havant umpire telling the Havant striker to stop her Marie Sharapova-esque shrieks.

Waterside kept the pressure on the Havant defence with some good attacking play which was rewarded with Abi scoring to make it 4-5. With only a few minutes left of the game, Waterside pressed forward and were awarded a penalty corner. As both teams were preparing for the short corner, the final whistle blew meaning this would be the last opportunity to salvage a point. Following a strike from Becca and goal mouth scramble, Havant annoyingly managed to clear the ball away which ended the game.

Unlucky not to get a point at the end but at least we had dirty sausages and chocolate brownies made by Gaynor to look forward to after the game!

Well done to Katie who was awarded POM, especially as Megan was there to help accept the trophy (one for the family album!). Thanks also to Jo and Coolio for umpiring.

Emma over and out!
