With a wet, thundery start to the morning the siders set off determined to win with 15 players in all. As the match started there were some lovely one twos between the shields – Coolio and Emma – and some great tackles from Dudley and Esther resulting in a couple of attempts at goal. However at half time the score was still 0-0 as Southampton were not going to give in easily. 

After a rousing talk from El Capitan at half time, the Watersiders were more determined than ever. With a quick change of umpires (Shout out to Katie and Becca for umpiring – job well done!) Siders dominated the second half with some brilliant marking from Kat and great positioning from My-Linh. 20 minutes into the second half the Siders used teamwork and Katie scored the first goal! However this was matched by Southampton who scored an equalising goal after a short corner. By the end of he match the sun was shining and the thoroughly knackered Watersiders drew 1-1 with Southampton. 

After the match Dudley presented her Apple slices and Bakewell tart to the team to celebrate Becca’s birthday – Mary Berry would be proud as no soggy bottoms! (on the tart at least!)
