WATERSIDE LADIES HOCKEY CLUB
After a top team talk from Cherry, the team were ready and raring for today’s game on what appeared to be a rather soggy and aged pitch.
Inspired by last weeks win, the team got off to a great start using their well known short, sharp passing to manoeuvre the ball around Romsey’s players. The ball was worked up the pitch with some lovely play involving Jo, Katie, Alex, Coolio and Kate. A power strike from Katie at the top of the D stormed past Romsey’s keeper and put Waterside into an early lead.
Romsey came back fighting but their attempts were either stopped by Tina or intercepted by Cherry, Nat and Gaynor who were quick to send the ball away from our goal. Caught unaware, Waterside conceded which bought the score line level. Despite our efforts, this was followed by a second goal just before half time.
After a half time team talk and hugs, Waterside were ready, and not prepared to go down without a fight (figuratively speaking obviously). A new burst of energy saw a run from Marie, but the keeper got in the way (damn). The hard work continued, and another run from Jo this time got the ball back into the D and onto a Romsey foot, however we were denied a short corner. The ball made it back into our territory, but was blocked by Marge who thankfully stopped Romsey’s chance of goal. Nash, Emma and Katie were constantly providing chances, but our second goal just didn’t seem to be happening. Then, with only a few minutes to go, a battle near the goal led Katie to scoring our equaliser which settled our well deserved draw.
Our valiant efforts were made obvious when over half the team had a vote for POM, however it was Gaynor who won the trophy this week for what was a great performance.
