WATERSIDE LADIES HOCKEY CLUB
On a late, (well 1.30pm) blustery Saturday, Waterside Ladies had a long arduous journey to Petersfield.
We were tired, but after a rendition of Shania twain (let’s go girls!) in the changing room, we were raring to go!
Unfortunately soon into the game Petersfield scored, and it looked like we weren’t raring or looking like winning! But being one nil down the opposition made a few breaks, but we were determined not to give up. A surging run by Nash pushed a lovely ball to Weight, which opened up a beautiful cross to Stuart who slotted the ball passed the goalie. We were back in command.
After a half time motivational talk by Newman we were ready and upbeat for the second half. Neale and Nash played with strength and linked beautifully with Davies. Petersfield started to pile on the pressure and without much warning they blasted another goal passed Tina Arena. We were not beaten yet, Macaulay made a wonderful break, despite being injured, and scored a peachy goal!! Making her first game back after a long absence, Newman played a defensive position and put her body on the line. Blocking shots, pushing the ball forward and taking two players on a once, she was unstoppable! And thoroughly deserved player of the match.
A lapse of concentration and some very dodgy umpiring decisions, Petersfield made a third goal, which everyone ( except joey) thought shouldn’t of been allowed. Robbed! Yes! We all played with heart and passion and a draw would of been a fairer result.
So what have we learnt from this match? To have better umpires! To never give up! We don’t travel well, And never play Nash as a shield!!
Oh and Tina Arena learnt how to pack the goalie bag in one hit Well done T.
Nash over and out.
