WATERSIDE LADIES HOCKEY CLUB
After a warm-up that included an evil version of the hokey cokey, Waterside began well. With well-practiced moves and quick one-two’s Becca scored first from open play.
Not a lot else happened in the next 25 minutes, other than the opposition scoring a few, so let’s gloss over the rest of the first half.
A tactical half time talk from Linda suggested that we all calm down (not just Taggart), and we set about the second half with a sense of composure. We had just lulled the opposition into a false sense of security, and quite literally threw ourselves into the game.
This half it was apparent that we wanted it more and were back in the zone. Our defence sharpened their elbows to do battle with their forwards and the halves worked tirelessly up and down the pitch. There were clearances off the line at both ends and Cherry diving just to keep the ball in play (these theatrics key to her winning POM). Nat would not let ball nor player into her net, and at one key moment neatly bundled the number 4 over the back line.
Having regained our shape and form, training began to pay off. Waterside put the pressure on again and dominated play. There were 2 goals from short corners including a perfect deflection for Jo, one of 2 for her today (watch out McKinley).
Final score – 3 all, and three plates of sandwiches to us!
