This ones for you Nasher.

A beautiful cold crisp day and the Watersiders embarked on the second half of the season looking to improve their position in the table. The match had another meaning today to play for one of our own who has had some very sad news. So with Nash in mind the team set about the challenge of beating Southampton 3’s.

Nerves were high as the late push back never sits easy with us creatures of habit. The game started well and the team were making some good passes but things began to take a turn for the worst. A number of short corners for Southampton and unfortunately their first goal despite the lovely Holly making some fantastic saves in her second outing as goalie (it’s becoming a habit Holly). Heads unfortunately when down and their best player (think she usually plays hmmmmm 3 leagues above us?????) scored 3 goals in quick succession. This is when the team realised that it is was the experienced Nash that was missing at this point.

A good half time talk from vice captain Becca (in place of the missing Chez – who was definitely a noticeable absence on the pitch) gave the team a new lease of energy and spirit. The team upped their game with good passing round the back by nat, gaynor and coolio, brilliant running off the ball and accurate and quick passes all the way up the pitch. The team were now performing at the standard that Nash has always played at and inspired of others.

Finally the siders got their break with Becca making a fantastic run through the middle and finishing beautifully. A second goal followed shortly with the other half of the Newman’s making the fabulous run this time, passing to Becca on the left who passed centrally to Katie (the eventual player of the match), where a shot from just inside the d hit the back board! Waterside were fighting back!

Pressure was kept on all over the pitch with excellent marking and support play but despite a number of other attempts and a short corner the team could not pull back the score line. Waterside had dominated the second half just as Nash has always instilled in them and showed how well they can play when they put their minds to it.

The game ended 4-2 Southampton but the whole team were high on the outstanding second half performance reminiscent of Nash at her best.

Did I mention Katie (top goal scorer by the way) won player of the match – although obviously this was only down to the absence of Nash and her skill.

This one was for you Nasher – lots of love xxxxxxxxxxx
