WATERSIDE LADIES HOCKEY CLUB
Welcome friends, Romans, countrymen, punks and skins and journeymen……
What a jolly spiffing day in the Waterside Winter Wonder Land!!!!!! It was raining goals in this 12-0 stomping victory!
Sit back, strap in and most importantly, make sure you’ve got some lead in the pencil for this match report……it might be more rousing than arousing but who knows!!!!
Well folks, after the bold statement of Tagster (a term Mary once suggested sounded more like a sexually transmitted disease!) last Saturday night, predicting the mighty Siders will finish the rest of the season unbeaten, the team certainly showed their intention to match this on the pitch today! A famous pundit once said “You’ll never win anything with kids” and sadly, for our opposition, this proved to be the case!!!
Within 5 minutes the team had managed to get themselves 3 nil up, even the Siders were amazed as usually we are still waking up mid way through the first half! Poor Bexster was seen scratching her head and using her fingers to try and keep up with the mathematics, the goals were flying in so quickly!!
With the extra incentive to impress our hobbling coach and stand in umpire for the day, Sprightly Steve, plus Lynda on the sideline the master tactician, the team stuck to task and managed to sustain the slick and stylish tempo of hockey that was set in those first few minutes when Katie and Tagster scored.
This was a real team performance, with the gallant effort of Holly setting the standards when she volunteered (no does mean yes right??!!) to take one for the team and plonk herself in between the posts…..and Captain Marvel showed the grit and determination after taking a painful roll and tumble …bouncing straight back up to continue…. some things are Saturday night all over!!! Kat and Nat were solid at the back and this helped ensure a second consecutive clean sheet!
The Special One managed to find her scoring boots again, and we were all secretly relieved knowing B.A. may have been out to visit had Bexster stayed off the score sheet! As it was, Bexster scored 4 goals in total, including
a couple of corkers and to be honest every time she went to shoot, the keeper looked terrified…..
Katie ensured she kept her scoring streak going with another 3 and Tagster also got herself a hatrick, although with her beyonze (!?!) backside always facing goal bound, its fair to say its not the most technically correct method of securing goals!
Sian and Coolio worked endlessly in midfield, and Sian did some great running and passing to earn player of the match! She looked delightfully happy to win this, and in true glamour style, was heard muttering about needing her make up before the POM photo was taken…. still, she managed to make time to replicate the wash and go head shake to get that beautiful mop of hair in check so not all was lost!!!
Our very own Zidane dominated the midfield area, proving once more why those golden oldies are priceless in any team. With the front line also including Alex and Abbie, its no wonder this was no average team performance. Into the second half and Captain Chez decided to get involved in the goal action, scoring with a simply stunning shot, to which even she couldn’t hide her delight and both arms were thrown into the air, yes both arms….. apparently I have lost my rights to comment on over the top celebrations!!!!
With 2 minutes left on the clock, big Toe as we affectionally refer to Griffo, got played through one on one with the keeper, and despite having enough time to have baked even more cakes…..opted for an early shot which crept in much to everyone’s delight!
It was a splendid team performance, the crowd were heard gasping comments such as ‘crikey, these girls really can play’ and ‘crumbs, what a marvellous move’….
With Katie’s mum winning the best fancy dress supporter, was she actually under all those coats?!?!, the comment she made at teams is worthy of a mention: its the players who are consistently good who usually go unnoticed…..with that Katie and Tagster looked at one another acknowledging the explanation as a reason neither received any POM votes!!!!!!
More importantly, it was a gracious win, we did not over celebrate or take the foot of the gas at any point, and with the opposition digging deep it probably felt like more than a game of two halves for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
